Slit-lamp anterior segment exam
Standard sequence for adult anterior-segment biomicroscopy. Out-of-order steps lose marks even if every step is technically correct.
- 1.Diffuse illumination — overall lid and adnexa survey
- 2.Goldmann tonometry (after fluorescein) — both eyes
- 3.Wash hands; clean chin-rest and forehead-bar
- 4.Narrow direct-focal beam: lashes → lids → conj → cornea (5 layers)
- 5.Instil fluorescein, cobalt-blue filter, recheck cornea (TBUT, defects)
- 6.Document findings; clean equipment; thank patient
- 7.Van-Herick angle estimate; check for AC cells/flare
- 8.Iris detail and lens at the slit; document any opacities
- 9.Greet the patient, confirm name & DOB, explain the procedure
- 10.Position patient: chin on rest, forehead against bar, eyes at canthus mark
